Winnipeg is the capital of Friendly Manitoba, and we’re proud of our welcoming reputation! The city is diverse and multicultural, with more than 100 languages spoken (16 of them in the Winnipeg studio!). Over a quarter of the population are immigrants – which makes it only fitting that the city is home to Folklorama, the world’s largest and longest-running multicultural festival. Over 12 per cent of Winnipeg’s population identify as Indigenous with events and celebrations including Indigenous Day Live and the Manito Ahbee Festival. Winnipeg is also proud to be home to a diverse and tight-knit 2SLGBTQ+ community with a rich history of inclusion and recognition, including being the first major North American city to elect an openly gay mayor.
Summer is festival season, with the Jazz Festival, FolkFest, Fringe Festival, Folklorama and more running back to back over the summer. Winnipeg is one of the sunniest cities in Canada, with hot summer days perfect for spending on a patio or at the lake.
Winnipeg knows how to do winter. Experience skating on the river trail, thermal spas, cross country skiing, and Western Canada’s largest winter festival the Festival du Voyageur, with its giant snow sculptures, live music, and celebration of Métis and Francophone history.
